2005 04 18 Grout, Topsoil, GradingToday we had the riprap at both ends of the pipe "grouted". This means that cement (no gravel) is dumped in between the rock to try and lock it in place. We also had quite a bit of topsoil delivered and graded into place. In this first picture it looks like things are getting worse and not better, but this is because the work area was still quite wet under the surface. It was turned over and allowed to sit over the weekend to dry out a bit more. The pile in the second picture is soil that was just too wet and it is being removed and replaced with dry topsoil that is being brought in. The next couple of shots are of the rock at the head end being grouted. When the cement is in place it is pushed around with shovels to get it between the rock and then the surfaces are broomed off as much as possible. Here's the same being done at the outlet end of the pipe. Nice dry topsoil comes in .. And smelly wet dirt and debris goes out.. Grading .. More of the same tomorrow, Tuesday, when I hope the rest of the topsoil will come in, the grading will be finished, and grass will be planted. When that is done the only remaining job is sealing the joints in the pipe and replacing the metal edging on the drive. |
